Betfred Championship Preview | Round 22

Betfred Championship Preview | Round 22

Round 22 of the Betfred Championship gets underway on Saturday evening in France. The game between Toulouse and Sheffield at Stade Arnaune starts at the later time of 8PM locally due to the forecasted warm conditions.

Toulouse produced a late comeback as they scored three tries to snatch the two points away from London last weekend. Olly Ashall-Bott scored the match winner in that victory, the full-back could make his 100thcareer appearance on Saturday. Ashall-Bott has made 66 appearances for Olympique since making the switch in 2022.

Sheffield Eagles have a big task ahead of them, but they will be hoping to end their losing streak. The Eagles have failed to register a way since their away trip to Barrow in Round 13.

The action on Sunday sees the other five fixtures taking place. Sunday will be an opportunity for the York Knights to open a four-point gap on Bradford. The Bulls have a bye week which could allow the gap to extend.

They say 13 is unlucky for some, but it isn’t for York Knights. Mark Applegarth’s side extended their winning run to 13 matches in the Betfred Championship.

Championship top scorer, Ben Jones-Bishop scored a try during the victory at Hunslet last weekend. The experienced back is just two tries away from 250 career tries.

York have won the previous seven meetings between the two sides.

London looked on course for victory last weekend, but conceded late tries at home to Toulouse.

Sadiq Adebiyi could make his 150th career appearance with 88 of those made for the Broncos.

A big game in the race for the top six takes place at the Eco-Power Stadium as sixth place Doncaster host fifth place Featherstone. The Dons trail Rovers by just points difference heading into this contest.

This will be the first meeting between the two sides since Round One. Featherstone started the season with the two points as Jayden Hatton and Clay Webb both scored braces during the 22-4 success.

Both sides have won 11 of their 19 Betfred Championship matches in 2025.

Oldham got back to winning ways last weekend in a high scoring contest at home to Barrow Raiders. Kieran Dixon scored twice for the Roughyeds as well as debut tries for Jack Ormondroyd and Ryan Brierley.

Sean Long’s side have a four-point advantage on Featherstone Rovers who sit behind them in the table.

Five defeats in a row for Batley Bulldogs has seen them slip down to second bottom in the table.

The Bulldogs have won three matches in 2025, with a further two draws putting them on eight points in the Betfred Championship.

Batley are undefeated in their last seven with six wins and a draw. Their last home defeat to Oldham was back in 2004.

Halifax Panthers showed their attack flair last week at Odsal during their 46-6 success against Sheffield Eagles. James Woodburn-Hall and David Nofoaluma both scored a brace during their impressive attacking display.

The Panthers boast an impressive record against Hunslet having won their last 11 matches.

It’s been a tough season for Hunslet in their first season back in the Betfred Championship. Hunslet have won two games this year having conceded 816 points.

Hunslet have been unlucky, as they nearly produced a huge away win back in Round 13 at Featherstone.

Barrow and Widnes will be looking to keep their hopes alive of pushing up the table. The Vikings sit ninth on 18 points, with Barrow one place and one point above.

Widnes did register an away win last weekend, meanwhile, Barrow failed to win on the road.

In recent years, games have been closely fought and Sunday is expected to be another similar clash
